A Rainy Night in Georgia (lyrics)

Prior to "A Rainy Night In Georgia" Tony Joe White was known for the hilarious "Polk Salad Annie"(Everybody said it was a shame that her mama was working on the chain gang) and the
poignant "Willie & Laura Mae Jones), but in the early 70s Brook Benton recorded the song that
became the Tony Joe White signature song, "A Rainy Night in Georgia" conjuring up images of
solitude (I find me a place in a box car so I take my guitar to pass some time). It's one of my all
time favorites. The Arif Mardin arrangement was impeccable. The song is on both of our Eps
as well as the first cd "I Will Be Here For You"

                                          A Rainy Night in Georgia
                                                                          by Tony Joe White

Hovering by my suitcase
Trying to find a warm place
to spend the night
Heavy rain a fallen'
Seems I hear your voice calling'
"It's all right"

It's a rainy night in Georgia
Such a rainy night in Georgia
I feel it's raining all over the world
I feel like it's rainy all over the world

Neon signs flashing
Taxi cabs and buses passing through the night
A distant moaning of a train
Seems to play a sad refrain to the night

But it's a rainy night in Georgia
Such a rainy night ing Georgia
I feel like it's raining all over the world
I feel like it's raining all over the world

How many times I wonder
It's to come out the same
No matter how you look at it
or think of it
It's life and we just got to play the game

I find me a place in a boxcar
so I take my guitar to pass some time
Late at night it's hard to rest
so I lay your picture to my chest
and I feel fine

But it's a rainy night in Georgia
Baby it's a rainy night in Georgia
I feel it's raining all of the world
It feels like it's raining all over this man's world

Oh have you ever been lonely people

It's a rainin' raining', raining' rainin, rainin' rainin', rainin
rainin', rainin', rainin, rainin', rainin, rainin' rainin, rainin;
rainin' rainin', rainin, rainin' all over the world
