When October Goes by Johnny Mercer and Barry Manilow

                                                    When October Goes
by Johnny Mercer and Barry Manilow

And when October goes
the snow begins to fly
Above the smokey roofs
I watch the planes go by
The children running home
beneath a twilight sky
Oh for the fun of then when I was one of them

And when October goes
the same old dream appears
and you are in my arms to share the happy years
I turn my head away to hide the helpless tears
Oh how I hate to see October go

Oh for the fun of then when I was one of them
And when October goes
the same old dream appears
and you are in my arms to share the happy years
I turn my head away to hid the helpless tears
Oh how I hate to see October go

I should be over it now I know
It doesn't matter much how old I grow
I hate to see October go

Nancy Wilson

Thoughts 10/21/13

At this time I'm still thinking about covers and for the past five years at around this time of the year I think about doing "When October Goes" recorded by Nancy Wilson (among others). The first time I heard was probably five or possibly six years ago on Hugh Hamilton's Talk Back radio program on WBAI radio. This was not a music program yet there were people who called in to request this song. Keep in mind it was the end of October just before Halloween. Oh how things change all of those great WBAI radio personalities are gone with the only exception being Amy Goodman. Hurricane Sandy damaged the station's tower on the Empire State Building and as a result the station is fighting for its life.I would like to dedicate this song to all those brilliant WBAI talk radio personalities that we don't hear anymore........Bernard Wright, Mario Murillo, Felipe Luciano,
Samori Marksman, Playthel Benjamin, Grandpa Al Lewis and the man who introduced me to this fabulous song....Hugh Hamilton. Long live WBAI.
